A dry scalp is the result of your sebaceous gland not secreting enough oil, causing itchiness, flakiness, and damage to the hair. You can take good care of it without putting in a lot of time and effort. All you need is a simple hair care and a little patience.
1. Use an SLS/SLES free shampoo
Did you know that most conventional shampoos have harsh foaming agents such as SLS/SLES that further strip away natural oils from our scalp? We are quite used to shampoos that produce generous amounts of foam and getting used to chemical-free Organic shampoos that produce less foam may take a while. However, switching to an Organic moisturising shampoo is far more beneficial in the long run.
2. Know your ingredients
Ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Honey, Hibiscus, Onion Oil, Olive Oil, and Coconut Oil have deep moisturising properties that also restore scalp health and boost hair growth. Opt for shampoos and conditioners which contain at least one of them as an active ingredient.
3. Stick to a Regular Hair care Regime
A regular oil massage can work wonders on one’s dry scalp. Go for a lukewarm oil massage and leave it on overnight. Do this twice a week and wash off with a gentle SLS/SLES free Ayurvedic shampoo. Focus on the roots of your hair while massaging with the shampoo and avoid using too much of it. While using a conditioner, focus on the ends of your hair.
4. Eat Well
Dry scalps are also caused by nutritional deficiencies. Increase the intake of Vitamins B6 & B12 through fruits, vegetables, multi-grain bread, cereals, flaxseeds and foods rich in Zinc & Selenium. And remember that water is the best tonic!
Follow these simple steps and begin your journey towards healthy, well-nourished hair.
