From breakouts to hives, redness, irritation and flare-ups, sensitive skin can have unwanted reactions to any factor, which may not necessarily be under your control. Climate, dehydration, ingredients, fragrances, anything can cause the skin to show signs of sensitivity, which also makes it difficult for one to apply most make-up products.
Make Up Tips for Sensitive Skin
In this article, we will help you find the right make-up routine for your skin type.
As a Rule of thumb, before using anything on your skin, do a little patch test on your neck or earlobe.
1 Use a Mild Face Wash
Find yourself a face wash that suits your skin type to clean your skin first thing in the morning. Try using a product that does not have any chemicals or allergens that react to your skin.
2 Moisturise Well & Regularly
Use a moisturiser which has calming ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Chamomile, and Rose to keep your skin cool and hydrated.
3 Avoid Anything with Fragrances or Preservatives
Added fragrances and preservatives tend to cause skin irritation and/or rashes. If your skin is sensitive, do avoid any product which has either of these to avoid harmful reactions.
4 Check the Expiry Date
Once open, a product has a certain shelf life or expiry date. Make sure to check for the same while buying any kind of beauty or make-up item as an expired product can possibly cause itchiness, breakouts or the like.
5 Use a BB Cream
Instead of a heavy foundation, use a BB cream as it contains fewer pigments, thus reducing the chances of breakouts. Even a powder can make your skin dry and itchy, so use it sparingly.
6 Avoid Make-Up with High Payoffs
One can be very easily attracted to deep, bright shades with guaranteed high pigmentation and payoffs such as lipsticks. However, such products contain chemicals and can make the lips parched and dehydrated. Try using a natural and organic alternative for everyday use instead.
7 Remove Your Make-Up
Sleeping with your make-up on can be a possible cause for skin-related issues. Before you sleep, always remove your make-up with a gentle cleanser. Anything from oil-based micellar water to cream-based cleansing lotions can be used for this purpose.
8 Clean Your Make-Up Tools
Another common reason for skin sensitivity can be using unclean make-up tools such as brushes, sponges or other applicators. Once in a week or two, take time out to clean all your tools.
