There are plenty of myths surrounding oily skin. We have compiled and busted some of the most popular ones. Read along and find out!
1 Myth: Wearing sunscreen every day makes skin even more oily
Truth: Wearing a sun protection cream is crucial to your skin care regime! Find a light-weight formula made with soothing ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Cucumber, and Green Tea. Use it every day and apply at least 15 to 20 minutes before stepping out.
2 Myth: Oily skin does not need a moisturiser
Truth: Moisturisation is essential for all skin types and it also prevents your sebaceous glands from secreting excess oil. One needs to find the right moisturiser depending on their skin type. For example, a light moisturising gel made with oil-controlling ingredients such as Sandalwood, Jojoba Oil, and Lemon can work effectively on oily skin.
3 Myth: Oily skin does not mature as fast as dry skin
Truth: Every skin type eventually matures. While somebody with oily skin may have fewer wrinkles, they would still have to take care and prevent other signs of aging such as pigmentation, enlarged pores, loss of firmness, and uneven skin tone. A light-weight anti-aging cream with rich anti-oxidant and hydrating properties can help reduce these problems.
4 Myth: Exfoliate every day to keep your skin clear and oil-free
Truth: Frequent exfoliation does more harm than good by stripping away all your natural oils. Do it not more than 2 times a week. Choose a gentle face scrub that removes dead cells and reduces excess oil without causing dryness.
5 Myth: Foods rich in fatty acids cause oiliness
Truth: Not all fatty acids lead to excess oil secretion. On the contrary, omega-3 fatty acids are good for acne-inflamed skin. You can find them in spinach, walnuts, chia seeds, flaxseeds, milk, soybeans, etc. Having said that, one must try their best to follow a balanced diet and watch out for foods high in sugar and omega-6 fatty acids which are largely present in fried foods.
Apart from these facts, do not forget to follow a regular skin care regime, eat well, and exercise every day.
