Dandruff occurs due to several factors including dry scalp, allergic reactions, oiliness, fungal infections, etc. There are a number of natural remedies that can effectively take care of your dandruff problem. Remember that people with both oily as well as dry hair are prone to this condition, so choose the remedies as per your hair type.
1 The Right Shampoo for oily dandruff
Aloe Vera, Lemon, Neem, Amla, Tea Tree Oil, and Apple Cider Vinegar have strong astringent/acidic properties that control excess oil production. Find an organic anti-dandruff shampoo that contains one of these as an active ingredient. You can also use each of these ingredients separately. Remember that it is best to go for shampoos, free from artificial foaming agents (SLS/SLES) and fragrances.
2 The Right Shampoo for dry dandruff
Ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Honey, Hibiscus, Onion Oil, Olive Oil, and Coconut Oil have deep moisturising properties that also restore scalp health and boost hair growth. Opt for shampoos and conditioners which contain at least one of them as an active ingredient.
3 Salt
Salt is known to absorb excess oil and combat fungal infections. Add a pinch of salt to a dollop of Ayurvedic shampoo and massage it onto your scalp in a gentle, circular motion. Leave it on for 3 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
4 Food
A diet rich in Omega-3 Fatty acid, Zinc, vitamins B6 and B12 can help restore the moisture balance on your scalp and prevent it from becoming either too oily or too dry. Go for green leafy vegetables, fruits, cereals, eggs, fish, poultry, yogurt, etc.
