Although we tend to deny, we often forget that even our makeup products have a shelf life. But every product has its own life span and depending on its type their age differs.
1 Eyeliner
Gel eyeliner can last up to 6 to 8 months since the constant dipping in the pot exposes it more. This increases the breeding ground for bacteria. A pencil eyeliner lasts longer since the lead is sealed and only exposed when sharpened.
2 Mascara
Mascaras tend to dry out quicker, and thus can only be used for 3 to 6 months. A good way to make it last longer is to not pump stick. It will decrease the amount of air in. Shake the bottle a bit before using and use the product left on the top.
3 Blush, Eye Shadow, and other Powder Cosmetics
Powder products last longer than wet products. So your compact and blush will easily be your best buddy for a good 1-2 years. Remember to clean your brushes regularly to reduce bacterial exposure.
4 Liquid Foundation and BB Cream
Foundation pots and BB Cream do not have a long shelf life and tend to expire within 6 months, They also need a good applicator to apply the product otherwise they tend to give an uneven, cakey finish. Pump foundations, however, can last from 1 to 2 years. Try to get a foundation bottle for 30ml maximum so you can try a new formula every now and then.
